The most important thing any of us can do each day is spend time with God. He desires to be a part of every aspect of our lives so praise Him each day and talk to Him about everything, the good and the bad. As born again believers in Jesus, we can often forget the very promises and power that accompany every follower of Christ. I believe that waking up with God’s word in our minds and hearts reminds us of the truth and sets us up for maximum effectiveness during the day.
I imagine there are millions of scriptural combinations that one could use to accomplish this task, but I am going to suggest the five passages below. I want to encourage you to place them in a prominent place where you can view them each day. Dwell on them, recite them out loud, and memorize each passage.
You can count these passages on one hand so for the purposes of reviewing them throughout the day use one finger to remind you of each passage. Start with your thumb, then index finger, followed by middle, ring, and pinkie fingers. As you focus on each finger, you can run through the passage associated with it. So without further ado, here are the passages:
1. Begin By Acknowledging That The Day Is A Gift From God (Thumb):
This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
2. Praise God For His Excellent Greatness (Index Finger):
Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse.
Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 150
3. Get A Proper View Of God (Middle Finger):
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23
4. Recognize His Power Toward You (Ring Finger):
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know…what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
Ephesians 1:18-19
5. Acknowledge Him For His Abundance In Your Life (Pinkie Finger):
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:20-21
Try this for a week or longer if you like. Substitute your own favorite verses if you prefer. I would love to hear your comments on how this simple practice has affected your day, week, and outlook. Blessings as you walk in the promises and power of God!
