The Power Of Prayer (Pt 2)

The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

                                                                                    James 5:16b

As we conclude, let’s go back over the pieces of armor and see how each one interconnects with all of the other pieces in order to provide us protection as we go into spiritual battle.

The Belt Of Truth

Knowing that truth is not just a set of facts rather truth is a Person and His name is Jesus. When we know Christ, we know the truth and the truth will make us free! (John 8:32)

The Breastplate Of Righteousness

This piece of armor guards our hearts. It is the knowledge that our righteousness does not come from ourselves rather it comes by faith. The righteousness of Christ is credited to our account by faith (Romans 4:4-5).

Feet Ready To Spread The Gospel

As we stand in the freeing power of the gospel, being justified and reconciled to God by faith, we can then participate in telling others about this wonderful news (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

The Helmet Of Salvation

This is the knowledge of our own salvation and the possession of eternal security. This gives us the power to be confident toward God because of what Jesus did for us on the cross (2 Corinthians 3:4-6). This also gives us peace of mind.

The Shield Of Faith

Faith gives us the power to extinguish all of the fiery arrows of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16). Faith is what makes prayer effective and it is what empowers us to live in victory against any notion that would seek to enslave us again.

The Sword Of The Spirit

When we unite the power of the Holy Spirit with the truth of the written word (the Bible), we have all of the tools necessary to bring every thought captive to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Reading, memorizing, meditating on, believing, and applying scripture to our lives brings spiritual victory.

And then there is today’s passage. James reminds us that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. When we put on the full armor of God, not forgetting that every piece interconnects with the others, and then we add prayer to that armor, we will be a people who are able to win the battles of spiritual warfare. May we move out in spiritual victory and affect this world with the good news of Jesus Christ!

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.
