And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
Paul concludes his letter with a thankful heart for the assistance that he had received while in jail. He boasted of the generosity of the church and concluded that because of their sacrificial giving to him and his ministry that they too would see God’s provision supplied to them in return. When we view everything that we have as belonging to God and merely on loan to us, we position ourselves to be more generous with the material possessions in which we accumulate throughout this life. The church had come to Paul’s aid during a difficult time in his life and he knew that God would honor that generosity.
To be “supplied” is to have our needs not only met rather filled. When we consider supply from God we can think of a glass being filled until it can no longer contain anymore. Being filled to the brim is an accurate way in considering God’s supply. Words such as abundance, liberally, and complete are all sufficient ways of describing the supply of God. Consider some of these truths regarding God’s provision:
Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.
Psalm 37:4-5
And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Matthew 6:7-8
Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.
Mark 11:24
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
John 10:10
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him…
Romans 10:12
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
Ephesians 1:18-19a
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5-8
As we conclude our study of Paul’s letter, what a wonderful reminder that as we are generous with the gifts and talents God has given us, He, in return, will supply all of our needs. May God grant you an unlimited supply so that you may continue to serve and honor Him!
