…that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:19b
As January draws to a close, we want to take a look at what it means to live in the fullness of God. To be filled up is to be spiritually filled to the brim. It is to be supplied liberally or to have a spiritual abundance. The world often defines abundance by the material possessions that we have, but for the believer, abundance goes way beyond material things into the very heart of the individual. “To be filled up to all the fullness of God” is a truly remarkable statement. We as human beings, having been redeemed by faith in Jesus, can actually experience this fullness in our daily lives, regardless of our economic status. God is able to do far more abundantly beyond anything you and I could ask for or even imagine (Ephesians 3:20). He is abounding in riches for all who call on His name (Romans 10:12). Our heavenly Father will lavishly give what is good to those who ask (Matthew 7:11). In fact, your life is to overflow with God’s fullness. Consider Jesus’ words:
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
John 7:38
Notice that this living water comes from our innermost being and it is to flow out of us who believe into the lives of those around us. Are you being filled up to all of the fullness of God? Does your life overflow with rivers of living water? There are a many things that can stand in the way of really living this type of life. Depression, despair, failure, broken relationships, guilt, shame, and physical problems are just a few of the struggles that can cause us to live short of spiritual fullness. Take your Bible and review the different elements of the prayer we have been studying this month (Ephesians 3:16-19, the entire prayer is found in verses 14-21). As we ask God to strengthen us by His Spirit, when Jesus sits on the throne of our hearts, as we are rooted and grounded in love for God and others, and as we experience the love of Christ in our own lives, then we will be filled up to all the fullness of God. We will live in abundance and become spiritual fountains for all in the world to see. Trust God in every aspect of your life and start living in abundance today!
